An effective salesperson may achieve greater results than an
ineffective salesperson of greater sales ability. Working hard is
not enough; top salespeople need to be effective.
Overview
We all have 24 hours in the day. The most successful
people in any walk of life are not necessarily the most
intelligent. Mensa, the society for people with a high IQ, is not
full of millionaires. The difference between being average and
being the best may be a matter of time management and how we use the 24 hours we have.
What is the difference between effectiveness and efficiency? Being
truly effective is doing the right thing. Efficiency is how well
we perform the tasks. Firstly we must be effective, and then let’s
be efficient. If you are the world’s best person at keeping your
filing system up-to-date, you may be efficient, but if your job is
selling, you are probably not effective. If your job is a filing
clerk, then you may be effective and efficient.
Let’s look at Thieves of Time in detail. Any activity which does
not help us move forward, is a thief of time. Any activity which
lowers our effectiveness is a thief of time. Any activity which
robs us of efficiency in pursuing effectiveness is a thief of
time.
